In twice-exceptional education, the strengths-based approach often conflicts with systems focused on weaknesses. This session helps educators adopt a mindset geared towards connection, flexibility, and interests, and leverage practical strategies from the transformative 5F model for IEP/504/BIP development to create equitable educational plans that truly empower 2e students.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of and classroom practices to help shift educator mindset more effectively towards developing connection, embracing flexibility, accentuating strengths, and reframing behaviors to successfully support 2e students.
- Apply positive education concepts and mindset shifting to the methods used to write positively-focused IEPs and Behavior Improvement Plans (BIPs) through strengths-based approaches.
- Learn and practice strategies for collaboratively designing IEPs that focus on developing strengths and mediating challenges for 2e students, including assessment plans and accommodations.
