Reading fluency is a critical link between decoding and comprehension, and many students receiving special education services need targeted support to become fluent readers. In this interactive webinar, participants will explore the key components of reading fluency: accuracy, rate, and prosody. They will also learn practical ways to incorporate evidence-based strategies that improve reading performance and confidence. Attendees will examine common challenges, review assessment and progress-monitoring practices, and walk through a structured fluency lesson plan template that can be implemented right away. Sarah Jane Schonour, Ed.D., is the Director of Professional Learning Materials for Read Naturally. Dr. Schonour is a National Board-Certified teacher with over 30 years of experience in the field of education. In the public schools, she has held the roles of paraeducator, special education teacher, resource teacher, and behavior specialist. At the university level, Dr. Schonour has served as adjunct faculty, instructor, and research professional. She has designed and provided high-quality professional development sessions for educators covering effective reading instruction and positive behavior support. Over the course of her career, Dr. Schonour has worked collaboratively with school districts and has presented at educational conferences across the country.
