Live Webinar | Structured Literacy for Language

  • Registration Closed
To support academic achievement among students with diverse learning needs, language comprehension needs to be addressed explicitly and systematically. Join Language Dynamics Group and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) for an exclusive webinar on structured literacy for language using oral narratives, which has been shown to improve students’ listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, syntax, writing, and domain knowledge. Dr. Trina D. Spencer and Dr. Doug Petersen will illustrate, using examples from their research findings, what structured literacy for language comprehension can look like for students at risk for reading comprehension difficulties.
 1. Participants will learn how structured literacy can be applied to narrative and expository language in a way that efficiently builds comprehension, vocabulary, syntax, writing, and domain knowledge.
 2. Participants will learn how to deliver explicit language instruction using structured stories and passages, visual supports, and systematic teaching procedures.
 3. Participants will learn strategies to promote generalization of language and comprehension skills beyond the classroom through take-home and practice activities.

This session goes beyond theory to show you what structured literacy for language comprehension looks like in practice and how it can be applied to support your students’ success!
