The prevalence of trauma, especially among vulnerable demographics such as women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and those with disabilities continues to grow. Trauma-informed schools seek to address these challenges. This session will discuss ways for educators to include proactive strategies to move from trauma aware to trauma informed.

Participants will be able to:

  • Define "trauma awareness" and "trauma informed."
  • Discuss ways which trauma may be apparent in schools and classroom settings.
  • Assess school and classroom for trauma sensitive practices.
  • Identify ways to apply trauma informed practices into classrooms.

Presenters: Patricia S. Arter, EdD; Sherry Hoyle, EdD; Kathleen Arban, LCSW-C, CCTP
