This webinar is designed to enhance understanding of play-based learning for neurodivergent children, focusing specifically on autistic play and the importance of play for social and emotional wellbeing. We will discuss the critical role of play in children's development, give an overview about autistic play, how it is different and the latest research on autistic experiences of play. We will then discuss different playful activities around collaborative LEGO building to enhance social communication and emotional wellbeing.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the importance of play in child development and emotional wellbeing
2. Understand autistic play, how it is different and the latest research into autistic play.
3. Discover some collaborative play activities to use to enhance team work and friendships.
4. Learn about what the Brick-by-Brick program is, and how this methodology can be used to support a sense of belonging, and develop social, emotional and communication skills.

As a clinical psychologist, teacher and academic, Gina has specialised in autism and child and adolescent mental health and is dedicated to supporting young people’s wellbeing and development through play and positive relationships. Gina founded Play Included C.I.C. in 2018. As one of the Directors, Gina has developed training and resources in the Brick-by-Brick® programme, supporting social and emotional development for autistic and other neurodivergent children through collaborative LEGO® play. Gina lives in a small village just outside Cambridge in the UK with her family. She loves playing with her two children, singing, cooking and travelling to Spain where her husband is from.
